What is an Enterprise portal?
Enterprise Portal is the primary system of access to services, tools, information and data via a web browser interface.
It is a single gateway for users, such as employees, customers and company’s partners to log into, retrieve information and use services and resources on offer.
Features of portals are:
- Content management - built-in or integrated third party content management.
- Integration - portal page can also display one or more portlets which are run by web applications that are able to access various backends and web services
- Collaboration - the ability for users to communicate through chat, messaging, forums and/or blogs as well.
- Personalization - in some portals users are able to change appearance, add/remove pages and decide what portlets are displayed on a page.
- Entitlement - the ability for portal administrators to limit portlets, content and services users have access to.
- Single Sign On - users authentication is propagated from their workstations to portal
- Self Service - users are able to keep their profile up to date
